[For application to work correctly install Google Play Services and for first time use ensure you have Internet]The Africa Tree Finder App enables you to find suitable tree species at your location. Currently the app can only be used within East Africa Country of Uganda, other countries to be included soon. The App works by either allowing you to tap on the "SPECIES FINDER" button on the map, after which you will be directed to the next screen where you will select tree species for a particular use or you can tap directly on any area of the map covered by the tilled VECEA map, after which a marker will appear showing the current vegetation type, when you tap on the maker you will be directed to the major use screen.NOTE: Currently, users can only search for tree species in Uganda using this app. Other country apps are as shown below:Kenya Tree Species FinderTanzania Tree Species FinderAfrica Tree Species FinderOn the major use screen, Five categories are provided namely Wood use, Human consumption, Animal use Environmental use and finally other uses. There are more categories under each major category. When a use drills down to the specific use screen and taps on any specific use, a list of suitable tree species will be listed by their taxonomy names.The tree species locator was developed through funding by DFID (https://www.gov.uk/government/organisations/department-for-international-development) to the IUCN (http://www.iucn.org/) project on ‘FILLING KNOWLEDGE GAPS ON THE RESTORATION OF DEGRADED SMALLHOLDER LANDSCAPE MOSAICS’, funding was provided by IUCN to ICRAF (http://worldagroforestry.org/) to develop a semi offline mobile phone applications based on the vegetationmap4africa that would enable user to locate suitable tree species for conservation purposes.Image Tiles and database were provided by (http://vegetationmap4africa.org/)Icons used have been downloaded from (https://icons8.com)Privacy StatementLocation information used by the application.The tree finder users Location Services to locate your device when using it, but it doesnt share your location to any third parties or store it on any server.Your location information is only used within the device when it is running and it is never shared with anyone or transmitted in any way.Since users location information is never stored on the device or shared when the application is either running or stopped, therefore user can be assured that their location information remains private.No third parties have access to any information used within the application.This policy is effective 1st February 2017
